MAURIELLO CALLS OUT STECK FOR VOTING AGAINST AID FOR FIRST RESPONDERS

ALBANY, NY – Frank Mauriello (Assembly Candidate for the 110th District) today issued the following statement responding to Phil Steck’s ‘NO’ vote on A.01064:

“Supporting first responders should not be a partisan issue. Unfortunately, my opponent made it political last week when he refused to join 52 Republican and Democrat colleagues in voting for a bill that would’ve provided a $2500 state income tax credit to volunteer firefighters and EMS workers.

As a former Chair and Member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for Midway Fire District, I know firsthand the recruitment and retention challenges volunteer departments are facing. Just this week, we saw another local fire company announce plans to shut down. Our local first responders deserve better representation and results from their elected state leaders.

I am committed to doing everything in my power to help our first responders. That’s not a talking point – that’s my record as a County Legislator who voted in 2023 to provide a 10% County Property Tax Exemption for these brave volunteers. The 110th District deserves an Assemblyman who will support our firefighters and EMS workers with their words, but more importantly their actions. If we do not support volunteer first responders we will have no choice other than to pay for full time fire service.”
